This page outlines the identity verification requirements applied to registered accounts at Orillia.

Identity Verification at Orillia for Canadian Accounts

Identity verification at Orillia is a mandatory compliance procedure applied to all registered accounts. This process is commonly referred to as Know Your Customer (KYC) and is not optional. Verification is required under applicable anti-money-laundering obligations and provincial regulatory frameworks governing online casino and betting activity in Canada.

At the federal level, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) sets anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing obligations that apply to gambling operators. At the provincial level, regulatory bodies including the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, iGaming Ontario, and equivalent authorities in other provinces establish licensing and operational standards that include customer identification requirements.

The platform is required to verify the identity of account holders before processing withdrawals, upon reaching defined transaction thresholds, and whenever enhanced due diligence is warranted based on account activity or risk indicators. Verification may also be initiated at account registration, depending on the applicable provincial requirements at the time of sign-up.

2. When Verification Is Required

Verification may be triggered at any of the following points:

  • During account registration, where provincial rules or operator policy require identity confirmation before an account becomes fully active.
  • Before a withdrawal is processed, regardless of the amount, if the account has not previously completed full verification.
  • When cumulative deposits or transactions reach thresholds that require documented identity confirmation under applicable AML rules.
  • When account activity generates a risk indicator that requires enhanced due diligence, including but not limited to unusual transaction patterns, inconsistent account information, or requests involving high-value transactions.
  • When a document previously submitted has expired or can no longer be confirmed as valid.

The company reserves the right to place a temporary restriction on withdrawals or account activity while a verification request is pending. This restriction is lifted once all required documents have been reviewed and accepted.

3. Documents Required for Verification

3.1 Identity Documents

To confirm identity, one of the following valid government-issued documents is required:

  • A valid Canadian passport.
  • A valid provincial or territorial driver’s licence.
  • A valid provincial photo identification card.

The document must be current, undamaged, and clearly legible. All four corners of the document must be visible in any image submitted. Documents that are expired, obscured, or altered will not be accepted.

3.2 Address Documents

To confirm residential address, one of the following documents, issued within the past 90 days, is required:

  • A utility bill showing the account holder’s name and current address.
  • A bank or financial institution statement showing the account holder’s name and current address.
  • An official government letter or notice addressed to the account holder at the current address.

The address shown on the document must match the address registered on the Orillia account. Documents that show a post office box address only will not be accepted as proof of residential address.

3.3 Payment Method Verification

Where required, the platform may request evidence that a payment method used on the account belongs to the account holder. This may include:

  • A partially masked image of a payment card showing the cardholder name and last four digits.
  • A screenshot or statement from an e-wallet or bank account confirming account ownership.

Full card numbers, CVV codes, and full banking credentials must not be submitted and are not requested by Orillia.

3.4 Biometric or Selfie Verification

In certain circumstances, a live selfie or a photograph of the account holder holding their identity document may be requested. This step is used to confirm that the person submitting the document is the registered account holder. Instructions for this step are provided through the account verification portal when applicable.

3.5 Source of Funds

For accounts where enhanced due diligence is required, documentation confirming the source of funds used for gambling activity may be requested. This may include recent payslips, tax documents, or bank statements. This requirement is applied selectively based on the account risk profile and is not a standard step for all accounts.

4. Submission Process

Verification documents must be submitted through the designated verification section of the Orillia account. Documents sent by unencrypted email or through third-party file-sharing services are not accepted. Submitted files must be in a supported format, which includes JPEG, PNG, or PDF. File size limits and format requirements are displayed within the submission interface.

Once documents are submitted, the company will review them within the timeframe stated in the account portal. If a document is rejected, the account holder will be notified of the reason and given the opportunity to resubmit. Repeated submission of invalid or unacceptable documents may result in further account restrictions.

5. Data Handling and Retention

All identity documents submitted are processed in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and any applicable provincial privacy laws. Documents are stored using appropriate technical and organisational security measures.

Submitted documents are used solely for the purposes of identity verification, age confirmation, address confirmation, and compliance with AML and regulatory obligations. They are not used for marketing purposes and are not shared with third parties except where required by law or by the terms of Orillia’s regulatory obligations.

Retention periods for verification documents are determined by applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Documents are not retained beyond the period required by law.

6. Consequences of Non-Completion

If an account holder does not complete identity verification within the timeframe specified in a verification request, the company may:

  • Restrict access to withdrawal functions.
  • Suspend account activity.
  • Close the account where required by applicable regulation.

Any funds held in a restricted account will be handled in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and Orillia’s account closure procedures.

The company does not accept responsibility for delays in withdrawal processing that result from incomplete or pending verification. It is the account holder’s responsibility to respond to verification requests promptly and to submit documents that meet the stated requirements.

7. Accuracy of Information

Account holders are required to ensure that all information provided during registration and verification is accurate and current. Submitting false, altered, or misleading documents is a breach of Orillia’s terms and conditions and may constitute a violation of applicable law. FINTRAC has identified the use of forged or stolen identity documents in gambling contexts as a recognised risk indicator associated with financial crime. The platform will act in accordance with its legal obligations where document fraud is suspected.

If personal information changes after verification has been completed, the account holder is required to notify Orillia and provide updated documentation as requested.
